Today was one of those incredibly difficult days—I had to get my rings cut off. 💔
Why Did This Happen?
For the past two days, I had been feeling incredibly swollen, but I thought if I drank extra water, my body would flush out whatever was causing it. Unfortunately, the swelling only worsened, and the pain became unbearable, especially when washing my hands.
At first, I thought there might be something I couldn’t see—maybe an ulcer—but after trying all the internet tricks (soap, ice, oil, string, etc.), nothing worked. I knew I needed help.
Calling for Help: My Local Fire Service
With a heavy heart, I searched for the number for Kirkby Fire Service and gave them a call. The man on the other end of the line was incredibly kind and assured me they could help. However, because I am housebound, they needed to log it as an emergency call.
👉 If you ever find yourself in this situation, call your local fire service’s non-emergency number first. Every fire service may have different policies, so it’s important to get their advice before taking any action.
Since they confirmed my case was an emergency, I had to dial 999, who then connected me back to my local fire station (I know—so many calls!). The firefighters asked if they could leave the station right away, which I deeply appreciated.
The Firefighters Were Amazing
Three fire officers arrived at my home, and they were absolutely lovely. They explained everything step by step and reassured me throughout the process. If you’re ever in this situation and worried about pain, don’t be—I didn’t feel any pain at all. You can feel the tool looping under the ring, but it’s more of a strange sensation rather than painful.
Even though I held it together while they were here, I won’t lie—I had a big cry when they left.
Why These Rings Meant So Much to Me
These weren’t just any rings.
💍 My engagement ring is sentimental for obvious reasons.
💍 My wedding ring was even more special—it belonged to my Nan. She gifted it to us on the day we got engaged, making it a piece of family history I have cherished since our wedding day.
I had never taken my rings off since the moment we exchanged vows, so having them cut off felt devastating. 😭
It’s Okay to Grieve Moments Like This
Sometimes, life hands us situations that feel impossible to bear. It’s okay to grieve, to cry, and to share those emotions.
Today was incredibly tough, but I want to thank you for being here with me through this journey. 💔

Important PSA: When to Call 999
🚨 If you have a non-emergency situation, please don’t call emergency services unless absolutely necessary. Call your local fire service’s non-emergency number first—they will guide you on the best steps to take.
Since I am housebound, my local service required my call to go through 999, but your situation may be different!
Sending love to you all always! 😘
